Q: Is iChart HIPAA compliant?

A:iChart is HIPAA compliant and sets new milestones for mobile security. The entire application and data stored on the iPhone is encrypted, and is inaccessible by other applications on the device or attached to the device. All data transferred in and out of iChart via iChart Sync is encrypted using 128 bit SSL and proper authentication. Please also note that the iPhone has built-in PIN code access control as an option in the iPhone settings panel. We recommended strongly that users turn this feature on to prevent access to the device if lost or stolen. In addition, iChart sync has a remote “wipe” or delete feature that will enabled in the next release. This feature will allow authenticated users to delete the entire iChart database on their iPhone via iChart Sync.

Q: Inital install and start-up black screen for a few seconds.

A: The first time the application is run it creates a new database and will show an alert screen indicating such.  This occurs only on the first-time execution or when memory is wiped clean and a full re-install is required.  Typical loading times for the application are approxiamtely 2-5 seconds when launched from the home page.

Q: I added a patient and it is not showing up on the patient list.

A: First be sure that you selected the Save button in the top right corner prior to going back to the patient list.  This is a common missed step.  Secondly, the patient list search criteria is initally set to list Active Inpatients at All Sites.  So if the patient was added, and you did not add an active inpatient encounter at the same time, it will not be displayed without changeing the patient list search criteria.  In this example after adding the patient (no encounter), you would then selected the search button (icon) from the patient list, then select the "Search by" option.  As a further filter you can enter a specific lastname, MRN etc, or just leave the textbox blank which represents a (* )wildcard search.

Q: Where are the users preferences and custom setting?

A: Application settings can be found in the iPhone Settings application under the iChart menu option.  These settings are required to allows iChart application to syncronize with the iChart Sync datacenter.  Additionally, the user is advised to add their sites of practice to the Sites page which can be found by selecting the search icon from the Patient List screen, then selecting the All Sites button.  Sites can be added using the ' +'  button in the upper right of the screen.
